three year old asks "Am I black"

I am Portuguese and my husband is from Haiti. I have a three year old daughter and sixteen month old son. My daughter asked me today, after her bath, if she was black.

I didnt really know what to say, I told her that no she was brown because I was assuming that since she is so young she meant was she literally black. I don't know if I did the right thing or not. And I'm not sure what to say if it comes up again.
