Questioning 19 Year Old Son

My son is 19 and is friends with a 19 year old man. He came home from work at 11:30 pm and then left to go over this man's house. When I questioned this he said, "Mom, I'm not gay, we're just friends. I still don't feel this is right."

When you say you feel this is not right, you make it clear that you don't approve of the possibility of your son being gay. If he is gay, he surely knows your feelings and doesn't want you to reject him. The best thing you can do is let your son know you love him unconditionally and accept him for who he is.

You might contact PFLAG, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays for support. It certainly couldn't hurt, even if your son is not gay. Regardless of your beliefs, if your son is gay, that will not change.

You say your son is 19 and seeing a 19 year old man. It sounds a little bit like you are making a distinction between this "man" and your son "a boy". Your son is an adult and as an adult, he deserves to be treated respectfully.
