Poem for Parent

Our poem for parent page is for all the parents of the world. Raising children is a demanding, yet fulfilling job. Parents need support, compassion and understanding. Sometimes, they need a little break. When you're feeling overwhelmed, take some time out for yourself. After you've given yourself a little respite, read this page to inspire you to reconnect with your children and all the responsibilities of hearth and home.

If you have a favorite "poem for parent" to submit, we invite you to Contact Us by using the link to the left. Although we do not guarantee that your submission will be published, we are looking for words that will inspire parents, help them appreciate their beautiful families and offer insight into important issues.

Poem for Parent

Watch your thoughts,
They become words.

Watch your words,
they become actions.

Watch your actions,
They become habits.

Watch your habits,
They become character.

Watch your character,
It becomes your destiny.

Poem for Parent

Because I feel that in the heavens above
The angels, whispering one to another,
Can find among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of "Mother,"
Therefore, by that dear name I have long called you,
You who are more than MOTHER unto me.

~Edgar Allan Poe

When we attempt to enter a small child's world,
we come as foreigners who have forgotten the landscape
and no longer speak the native tongue.

~Selma H Fraiberg

Being a mother means that your heart is no longer yours;
it wanders wherever your children do.

Nobody knows what a boy is worth,
and the world must wait and see;
for every man in an honored place,
is a boy that used to be.

~Phillips Brooks

Babies are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God.
Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.

~Larry Barretto

A mother's arms are made of tenderness
and children sleep soundly in them.

~Victor Hugo

If you have never been hated by your child,
you have never been a parent.

~Bette Davis

You don't choose your family.
They are God's gift to you,
as you are to them.

Desmond Tutu

Before you were conceived
I wanted you.
Before you were born
I loved you.
Before you were here an hour
I would die for you.
This is the miracle of life.

~Maureen Hawkins

Mothers are the most instinctive philosophers.

~Harriet Beecher Stowe

Life is not measured by the breaths you take,
but by the moments that take your breath away.

~Unknown
