Parenting Teen Troubled - How Parents Can Help a Troubled Teen

Parenting Teen Troubled ...

For most teens, adolescence is a period of awkwardness, confusion and overwhelm. During the transition from childhood to adulthood, many things can happen to get a child off track. As parents, it is up to us to recognize when things are starting to go awry and summon the strength and courage to help our children turn themselves around. But what if you haven't been paying attention and find yourself dealing with an adolescent who is unmotivated, defiant, aggressive, withdrawn, delinquent, suicidal, doing drugs or engaging in compulsive sex?

The root of all these symptoms could be depression. If your child is depressed, you may not be able to reach him and however frustrating that may be, realize that for him, life is infinitely more painful, even though he may keep all that pain inside. Although we usually attribute depression to some form of loss, it can also be related to poor nutrition. When you don't have enough dopamine and serotonin in your brain, you are not reslient and cannot recover from a loss. Keep in mind that prolonged depression depresses the feel-good neurotransmitters in the brain.

Parenting Teen Troubled: A Possible Solution

Many parents have written to tell us that using a holistic, all-natural supplement called MindSoothe Jr has helped their teens emerge from their depression. This nutriceutical helps balance mood, promotes motivation, a sense of calm and a reasonable attitude. It works by supporting healthy neurotransmitters in the brain (like serotonin and dopamine—the feel-good neurotransmitters), giving the brain the nourishment it needs so your teen can get relief from his symptoms which allows the brain to heal.

Although some parents may balk at this, understand that psychological stress can be damaging to the brain and can change its underlying structure. Prolonged depression or anxiety can deplete the brain's production of the feel-good neurotransmitters. This is why feeding the brain is so essential. When your teen has normal levels of serotonin and dopamine in his brain, he will naturally be more receptive to discussing what he's been feeling and in doing so, will release dark, heavy feelings, so that he can return to his naturally happy, resilient self.

Parenting Teen Troubled: Supporting Brain Health is Essential

The body is the foundation for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. Brain fitness (proper levels of neurotransmitters in a flexible, aware, resilient, highly functioning brain) is fundamental to the body's proper functioning. Give the brain the nutrition it needs and your teen will be able to recover from difficulties and face challenges with the optimism and enthusiasm of a person who is confident that he can learn. (For more info, see Dietary supplements used in the treatment of depression, anxiety and sleep disorders by JS Cauffield and HJ Forbes.)

Parenting Teen Troubled: Therapy Plus Nutriceuticals

If your teen is severely depressed and is acting out or withdrawn, a combination of theraphy and MindSoothe Jr can be very helpful. Keep in mind that a teen who is suffering from depression should be monitored by a licensed mental health proessional. Using the supplement while in therapy may accelerate the healing process as the brain gets the nutrition it needs to facilitate the discussion and release of feelings.
