my 9 year old will not hug

by Stefanie Plante
(Howard city , mi)

I am a mom of 3, married to an alcoholic, but mostly, good man. My youngest is 2. My oldest 11. My Jessica is my middle child.

She tells me no, when I go to hug or kiss, or be affectionate to her in any way. I try to prod, and beg, and then simply stand back, and all are yielding the same result: no physical affection at all.

I am so worried about her, and us, and feel like a failure in some way.I always assure her of my love, and in little gestures, as well as caring about her interests, schooling, and church involvement.

Please help me, I need to know is it normal , as some tell me, for this to happen?

SINCERELY, A WORRIED MOM,
Stefanie
