Lack of Concentrating and Forgetting Things

by Beauty

I have a son who is 7 years old. My worry is that he forgets things easily at school, lacks concentration and he has no self confidence in everything he does. I really want to help him but I don't know how. I wish I could get him a school that could help.

Lack of Concentration & Forgets Things
by: Laura Ramirez

You say that your son is suffering from a lack of concentration and forgets things. Although this is something that a lot of kids have trouble with, particularly young boys, if it is affecting his level of confidence and performance in school, it's essential to address it as soon as possible because you don't want him to lose interest in school. The good news is that the ability to focus for extended periods and to remember information are skills that can be learned.

Playing certain games can help your child learn to concentrate despite distractions. Think of some games from your youth that you can teach your child. I'm thinking card and board games here, not video games.

You also might be interested in a program that was developed by a psychologist whose own son suffered from similar symptoms. Although his son had ADHD, the program can help anyone (diagnosis or not) learn how to improve concentration and memory skills. It also teaches kids how to control impulses which can be especially important for school age boys. Personally, I think it's better for you to teach your son how to do this, rather than taking him to a professional because helping him will just increase his respect and trust in you.
