Grandparent Poem: The Joys of Grandparenting in Quotes and Poems

Our grandparent poem and quote collection below speaks directly to the heart of what it means to be a grandparent. There's nothing more satisfying than to have raised children who are raising their own. And now, rather than dealing with the worries and responsibilities of being a parent, you can revel in the joy and discovery of being a grandparent.

There's nothing like watching your progeny grow up and there's nothing like the comfort that comes from knowing that some small part of you will live on in those you love and cherish. This final stage of life is for giving back and for loving with that great big heart you have grown and nurtured over time. Our elders are our teachers because they've had the time and experience to discover what life is all about.

If you have written a grandparent poem that you would like to share with others, please submit it using the Contact Us link to the left. If it flows and reveals an insight or a facet of grandparenting, we will post it to our web site. Your copyright remains your own.

Grandparent Poem:

My Grandmother

by Laura Ramirez © 2006. All Rights Reserved.

My grandmother's lap is soft and warm
Her eyes are bright and kind,
She sings me to sleep with lullabies
And soothes my active mind.

She wakes me up for school each day
A twinkle in her eye
Her back is stooped and creaky
But her spirit's strong and spry.

I know sometimes her hips ache
As she whirls me across the floor
Life is made for dancing, she sings
As we waltz on out the door.

It's really just the two of us—My Gran and me
While mom and dad rush here and there
Grandma teaches me secrets:
Take Time, Enjoy, Show Love, Give Care.

Grandparent Poem:

One of life's greatest mysteries is how the boy
who wasn't good enough to marry your daughter
can be the father of the smartest grandchild in the world.

~Jewish Proverb

The idea that no one is perfect is a view
most commonly held by people with NO grandchildren.

~Doug Larson

Grandchildren are God's way of compensating us
for growing old.

~Mary H. Waldrip

Savor the moments that are warm
and special and giggly.

~Sammy Davis Jr.

Few things are more delightful than grandchildren
fighting over your lap.

A mother loves and teaches
A grandmother teaches love.

~Unknown

Grandparent Poem

There's nothing like having grandchild to
restore your faith in heredity.
