Discipline a gifted child

My daughter is 9 years old and is in gifted classes. She gets excellent grades and great comments from all of her teachers. However, she will defy at least 80% of my directives and talks back. I'd like to know how to discipline a gifted child.

I have grounded her over and over, but after a week or two, she's back at it. Seems nothing I have tried is working. I am very frustrated and her actions constantly aggravate me, ruining most of my days when I have free time. Does anyone have any ideas?
