Biracial School Registration

by Frustrated Mom
(Connecticut)

I have never gone on any blogs before but I really need some help and can not seem to find anyone that is understanding my frustration. My husband and I have have two children and he is black and I am white.

We have a son who is 11 months and a daughter who is almost five who is starting Kindergarten in the fall and when I filled out her school registration I failed to fill out the ethnicity because they did not have an option for biracial. Only Black/Non Hispanic, White/Non Hispanic, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American.

I was then contacted by the school that stated that they were unable to complete the registration unless I chose one of the above, so that they could fill out that portion of the form.

I am very hurt that my husband and I have tried so hard to educate our daughter about her two cultures and now we are faced to make a decision whether we should classify her as Black or White? Am I the only parent out there that has been faced with this craziness before?

Get the parenting book that shows how one parent blended ideas from two different cultures to raise biracial children to be strong and caring people who feel comfortable in both cultures and with people of all races.
