Dont give up on her
by: Debra

I realize it has been a while since you posted this but I hope I can still offer a suggestion. I have borderline traits and years ago was referred to a therapist who specializes in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) skills.

Dr. Marsha Linehan has some great books and workbooks on this, but the best thing that happened in my life was to do work with a one on one therapist who specializes in DBT. Her name is Robin Day, she changed my life.

Helping me through the skills necessary to learn how to cope with borderline personality. I highly recommend not a general therapist no matter how much you like them, but someone who specializes in this very different type of DBT skills training which causes such emotionally intense behavior that causes so much destruction to a person and their family. Best of luck!

Bipolar & Borderline Adult Sister
by: Laura Ramirez

The borderline personality is one of the most challenging clients for a therapist to deal with. This is due to their lack of trust, web of lies, addictive personality, explosive outbursts and I-hate-you-but-don't-you-dare-leave-me stance. The problem is it is tough to find a good therapist if you don't have the money for treatment.

Hopefully, you can get your sister into a good county treatment program for her drug abuse with a counselor or therapist who is tough, caring and committed and who busts her when she is dishonest or gets off track.

Your sister has a long way to go, but only she can take responsibility for her treatment. All you can do is try to find the best treatment available and comfort yourself with the knowledge that you've done your due diligence.

To better understand your sister, read The Angry Heart: Overcoming Borderline and Addictive Disorders : An Interactive Self-Help Guide

The author of the book is a colleague of my husband and wrote a back cover blurb for my parenting book, Keepers of the Children. He specializes in the treatment of borderline patients.

Hope this helps.
